Bilberry - Vaccinium myrtillus

Vaccinium myrtillus, the common Bilberry plant, is a native shrub which grows on our heathlands and other acidic soils.  It is one of the many species under threat from the loss of our heathland habitats.

The Bilberry produces a small, blue berry which looks very similar to the American blueberry and can be used in the same way in cooking.
