The Holly (Ilex aquifolium) tree is very tolerant of shade and is a pretty evergreen renowned for its berries in the winter. It is a useful addition to any garden particularly at Christmas for decorating inside the home. A steady grower, reaching up to 15m if not cut and is often used for hedging. Attractive red berries are produced by the female trees. 80% of our Holly saplings supplied are female. In folklore the Holly was left uncut in hedges to obstruct witches who were known to run along the tops of hedges.
